Former Kerala speaker’s son detained for mother’s murder

Kallooppara (Kerala), Feb 12 (IANS) The police here have taken into custody Josekutty, the only son of former Kerala speaker T.S. John, for his suspected involvement in the murder of his mother Wednesday night.
Pathanamthitta Superintendent of Police K.K. Chellapan told IANS that Josekutty has been taken into custody.

“He was under our observation since yesterday (Wednesday) and he will be produced in court tomorrow. He is a person who does not have a stable mind,” said Chellapan.

Aleykutty, 65, was found in a pool of blood in their home Wednesday night and Josekutty told police that he saw someone running out of his home at the time and there was no electricity in their house.

Aleykutty was a former teacher.

John, chairman of the Kerala Congress (Secular) Party was a four time legislator representing Kallooppara constituency and was speaker of the Kerala assembly from Feb 17, 1976, to March 25, 1977.

He was also food and civil supplies minister in the A.K. Antony cabinet in 1978 and held the same portfolio in the P.K. Vasudevan Nair cabinet in 1979.
