Former footballer dies in a destitute home

Kozhikode, March 5 (IANS) Former football player George Thomas, who played for clubs in India and Pakistan, died at a home for the destitute here Wednesday. He was 89. Thomas first donned the jersey for Universal Club of Kozhikode when he was 17. Later, moving to north India he played for clubs like Matunga Youngsters and Maqbool Sports Club, Lahore.

In 1948 and 1949 he played for Gujarat in the Santosh Trophy and also played in Durand Cup and Rovers Cup.

A bachelor, Thomas was brought to the destitute home run by West Hill Poor Home Society here last year after the death of his sister.
