Former BARC scientist commits suicide
April 29th, 2011 - 4:38 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, April 29 (IANS) A former scientist with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) allegedly committed suicide at her residence in southcentral Mumbai, police said Friday.
Uma Rao, 63, was in ill health which is believed to have driven her to commit suicide.
“Rao was found dead in her room this (Friday) morning. We have found a suicide note from her room that said she was depressed and was taking the extreme step,” a police official told IANS.
Rao worked in the Food Technology and Cell Biology division at BARC and was also the President of Indian Women Scientists’ Association (IWSA).
