New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) A 27-year-old employee of a private bank, who lost his job during recession, was arrested here Monday for duping people on the pretext of giving them loans, police said.

Rahul Kaushal, a resident of Harsh Vihar in north Delhi, had duped more than 50 people by posing as an employee of HDFC Bank branch in Connaught Place.

“Due to his in-depth knowledge of bank plans and policies, he was able to cheat people and received Rs.1 lakh from his victims through blank cheques obtained on the pretext of easy loans,” a police officer said.

Police have also recovered two mobile phones, four SIM cards, five ATM cards, stolen data of three multinational banks and various bank passbooks from Kaushal. He used five banks to deposit money.

“He had worked for three years with a private bank, but lost his job during recession,” the officer added.

The case was cracked when the police received a call by a south-Delhi resident Nov 3 about a bank executive promising easy loan worth Rs.1 lakh.

Kaushal, who hails from Bihar, lived with his parents in the capital.
