Panaji (Goa), 16 March (IANS) Even while the Goa government is trying to fend off allegations of a cover-up in the murder of British teenager Scarlette Keeling, a German tourist Sunday alleged that she was molested by an unidentified man at Cavelossim beach here. Twenty-seven-year old German national Marlene Martha Gabriel complained to the police that an unidentified person molested her at Cavelossim beach Saturday night.

According to police inspector Edwin Colaco, Gabriel, in her statement, said that a man pulled her swimwear while she was bathing in the sea.

“We have noted the description of the accused and drawn a sketch with the help of complainant,” Colaco told IANS.

The incident occurred when Gabriel and her woman friend went to the beach for a late night stroll. “While her friend was waiting at one stretch, she went ahead and later decided to take a bath,” Colaco said. The police have released the sketch of the molester.

Recently, the Goa Police received a lot of flak for its handling of 15-year-old Scarlette’s rape and murder case. Scarlette’s semi-naked body was found on the popular Anjuna Beach four weeks ago.

The police initially termed it an accidental death due to drowning but her mother, Fiona MacKeown, insisted that her daughter was murdered.

Intense media attention and scrutiny forced the police to order a second autopsy.

The police later claimed to have “cracked” the case after arresting a bartender who is now accused of raping and killing Scarlette after giving her drugs.
