Dima Hasao District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta confirmed the incident to IANS and said that three AK-47 rifles and some live ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
The slain militants belong to a lesser known militant outfit of the Dimasa community- the Dimasa National Revolutionary Front (DNRF).
One militant belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN Isak-Muivah) faction was also apprehended during the operation, he said.
“Based on information, a joint team of police and personnel of 9th Madras Regiment cordoned off the remote Milliu village under Langting police station in the district around 4 a.m. Saturday. The militants fired on the police team which led to a shootout,” said Mahanta.
“We have intensified the search operation in and around the area as there might be some more cadres of the outfit,” the SP said.
