For designer Kiran, large size clothes are success mantra
November 30th, 2011 - 5:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) Fashion designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh is set to dispel the myth that designer clothes are meant only for size zero. Her new collection, named Big Beautiful Women (BBW), offers stylish designs for large framed women.
Her new line offers clothes in sizes 12 and above, as she realised it doesn’t make business sense to cater only to women with a model-type body.
“While checking a report on remaining stock, I noticed only size eight and 10 remained on the racks. It got me thinking as to how we in the fashion industry have been busy promoting sylph-like forms, because they show our clothes off best,” Ghosh said in a press statement.
“Six-foot models that fit into size eight garments make everything look beautiful. But honestly, how many size eight ensembles do I sell? Not even five percent. And none to an age group over 30!” she added.
The new collection features dresses, kurtas, jackets, kaftans, and saris in bright, acid colours like orange, lime green, coral along with a more mellow jewel-toned range.
“These designs are created keeping in mind the mainstream Indian woman to guide her on her key pieces, to draw their attention to a dress so creatively cut that it chics her up and slims her down. Clothes that she can put on and not worry about, regardless of her girth. Isn’t that what every woman is looking for,” said Ghosh.
