Five soldiers buried in Kashmir avalanche
January 24th, 2012 - 12:21 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Jan 24 (IANS) Five soldiers and two troopers were buried under an avalanche in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Tuesday morning, an official said.
“An avalanche struck one of our posts in Keran sector of the LoC (Line of Control) in Kupwara district around 7.30 a.m.,” Lt Col J.S. Brar, spokesperson of army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps, told IANS.
“Five army soldiers and two BSF (Border Security Force) troopers were trapped under the avalanche. A rescue operation has been started,” he added.
