Five security personnel killed in road accident

Mumbai, Feb 23 (IANS) Five Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were killed and three were seriously injured when the van in which they were travelling rammed into a water tanker on the Mumbai-Nashik highway Saturday. The accident took place at 4 p.m. near Kamalgaon village in Shahapur district of Maharashtra, 90 km from Mumbai.

S.B. Shellar, police inspector with the Shahapur police station, said the jawans were going from Mumbai to Nashik.

“While the driver of the RPF van (MH-05/AD 3014) was trying to negotiate a particularly sharp hairpin bend, he lost control and rammed the vehicle into the tanker (MH-05/2287) which was coming from the opposite direction,” Shellar told IANS.

The deceased have been identified as Vasant Sawant, Murthy, Tushar Tamne, D.S. Chachne and driver Lalit Thapa.

The three injured were rushed to hospital immediately and were in a critical condition.
