Five security personnel injured in Jharkhand (Lead)
February 5th, 2011 - 9:09 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Feb 5 (IANS) Five security personnel were injured in a gunfight with Maoists in Jharkhand’s Khuti district Saturday morning, police said. One Maoist camp was also destroyed.The battle erupted when a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) unit and state police surrounded Marangburu jungle, 60 km from here, after learning about Maoist presence in the area.
The rebels fired at the security forces as they entered the forest. The gunfight began around 8 a.m. and lasted till the afternoon. Five security personnel were injured and airlifted to Ranchi for treatment.
One Maoist camp was destroyed in the operation. A police officer said some Maoists were also injured in the gun battle.
