Five robbers held in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Five men were arrested in west Delhi late Friday when they were on their way to rob a copper factory, police said. Three of them were also involved in a robbery in Nangloi area last year when a man was robbed of Rs.6 lakh at gunpoint.The arrested have been identified as Pardeep, 22, Virender, 23, Dharam Raj, 35, Girish Yadav, 18 and Harish Chauhan, 25.

Police received a tip-off that five members of the infamous Ravi gang will come to Kanwar Singh Nagar at around 9 p.m. Friday.

“When they arrived, they were apprehended. A revolver, two screw drivers, an iron cutter and two bikes were recovered from them. They told us that they assembled there to loot a copper factory in Adhyapak Nagar,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) V. Renganathan said.

During interrogation, Pardeep said that he was on business terms with Narender Jain, owner of a plastic godown at Firni Road. In June 2010, Pardeep had an argument over payment and discontinued his business with Jain.

“Pardeep came in contact with robber Ravi through a common friend and planned loot Jain. On July 17 last year Pardeep, Virender, Dharam Raj and Ravi assembled near Mundka Metro Station at around 2.30 p.m. when Jain came in his Swift car. They looted Rs.6 lakh on gunpoint,” said Renganathan.

Ravi, the kingpin of the gang, is absconding.

“He is a hardcore criminal and involved in many cases of property crime,” added Renganathan.
