Five of a family suffer burns in shanty fire
December 13th, 2009 - 8:42 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS) Five members of a family Sunday suffered burn injuries when their two-room shanty in northwest Delhi caught fire after a gas leak, officials said.
The incident was reported from Wazirpur area around 8 a.m., according to the Delhi Fire Service officials.
Raju, his wife Manju and their children Himanshu, Gungun and Dipanshu were trapped inside their burning house. However, they were rescued by their neighbours before the fire service vehicles could reach the spot.
The injured were taken to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.
Police said Raju suffered 35 percent burn injuries, Manju suffered 55 percent burn injuries, while their children suffered 20-30 percent burn injuries.
“The fire was caused by a leakage from the cooking gas cylinder,” a policeman said.
