Five men posing as Maoists held for extortion
December 27th, 2010 - 10:57 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Dec 27 (IANS) Five men who posed as Maoists and extorted money from businessmen were arrested Monday in Orissa’s mineral-rich Keonjhar district, police said.Police raided the accused’s hideout in the Thakurani forested area on the Orissa-Jharkhand border and arrested them, district Superintendent of Police A.K. Singh told IANS.
More than Rs.2 lakh in cash, jewellery worth over Rs.10 lakh and arms were recovered from them, he said.
They were part of a gang comprising 10-12 people. They extorted money from businessmen by ssending them threatening letters.
The district headquarters of Keonjhar is some 235 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
