Five Maoists held in Orissa
December 15th, 2010 - 5:47 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Dec 15 (IANS) Five Maoists, including a woman, were arrested in Orissa’s Rayagada district Wednesday with a cache of arms and ammunitions, police said.The five guerrillas, all in the age group of 18 to 22 years, belonged to the Kashipur team of the Bansadhara division of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist, superintendent of police Anoop Krishna told IANS.
They were involved in about 15 cases, including attacks on liquor shops and mobile phone towers.
A pistol, a magazine, 20 live bullets, one country-made hand grenade, 20 detonators, and two land mines were seized. Police also recovered ten polythene sheets and three bags containing Maoist dresses, articles of daily use and training notebooks.
Maoists are active in more then half of state’s 30 districts. The district headquarters of Rayagada, considered a Maoist stronghold, is about 400 km from Bhubaneswar.
