Five Maoists get life term in Madhya Pradesh (Lead)

Bhopal, Dec 20 (IANS) A Madhya Pradesh court Tuesday sentenced five Maoists, including a woman, to life term for waging war against the state. The rebels were arrested during a raid on their illegal arms-manufacture unit in Bhopal in 2007.

Woman rebel Sunita Patil was caught with her husband Diwakar Patil and three others from the Piplani area of Bhopal Jan 11, 2007.

“Additional District and Sessions Judge B.K. Diwedi awarded life term to all five accused under section 121 (waging war against the state) and section 122 (collecting arms with intention of waging war against the state) of Indian Penal Code,” District Prosecution Officer Rajesh Raikwar told IANS.

The other three convicts are Chandra Shekhar, Ramesh and Vankaiya Yadav.
