Five killed in Uttar Pradesh road accident
October 25th, 2010 - 11:58 am ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 25 (IANS) Five people were killed and three critically injured when a tempo they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, police said Monday.
The accident took place late Sunday in Nijahi town, some 80 km from Lucknow, when the truck spun out of control and rammed into the tempo, killing five people, including a woman, on the spot.
“The three injured are being treated in hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical,” police inspector Harmeet Singh told reporters in Sitapur.
According to police, the passengers were residents of Sitapur and were returning from the Mishrikh Dham, a pilgrimage centre in the same district.
Police are yet to arrest the truck driver who escaped after the accident.
