Five killed in train-tractor trolley mishap

Deoria (Uttar Pradesh), May 27 (IANS) Five members of a marriage party were killed and 10 were critically injured after an express train ploughed through their tractor-trolley at an unmanned railway crossing, police said Friday.

The mishap took place Thursday night near Nonopar railway station, when Dibrugarh Express rammed into the tractor-trolley carrying the marriage party to Chanduali district.

“While one person died on the spot, the remaining four succumbed late Thursday during treatment. All the injured are being treated at the district hospital, where the condition of three is stated to be serious,” Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector O.P. Yadav told reporters Friday in Deoria, some 300-km from state capital Lucknow.

“Those killed or injured are from different families. Most of those riding the tractor-trolley are natives of different villages of Deoria,” he added.

According to officials, the Dibrugarh Express was headed to Assam from Chandigarh.
