Five killed in ammonia gas cylinder explosion
November 14th, 2011 - 1:18 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 14 (IANS) At least five workers, including an engineer, were killed and another five injured after an ammonia gas cylinder exploded at a cold storage in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahamaya Nagar district, an official said Monday.
The accident took place late Sunday at the S.D. Ice Cold Storage in Sadabad town, some 300 km from Lucknow, while the cylinder was being refilled.
“The cylinder exploded as the volume of the gas increased the prescribed limit,” District Magistrate Suhas L.Y. said
The injured were being treated at a hospital where the condition of two is serious, he added.
The adjoining areas of the accident site were evacuated to prevent the locals from the ill-effects of the gas.
