Five killed as vehicle falls into gorge
June 19th, 2010 - 11:58 pm ICT by IANSShimla, June 19 (IANS) Five people were killed and 14 others were injured Saturday when an overloaded multi-utility vehicle rolled down a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district, police said.
“The vehicle carrying 26 passengers rolled down a 50-feet deep gorge Saturday evening near Jawar village in Amb subdivision, killing five people on the spot,” Superintendent of Police Santosh Patyal told IANS over phone.
He said nine critically injured victims have been admitted to the zonal hospital in Una town, while five others were admitted to a local hospital in Amb town.
The dead included three women, he said.
“All the passengers were returning from attending a religious function,” another police official said.
The accident spot is some 150 km from Shimla.
