Five killed as tanker hits bike, car

Pune, June 7 (IANS) Five people were killed and one critically injured when a water tanker first rammed into a motorcycle and then collided head-on with a car on the outskirts of Pune, police said here Tuesday.

“The water tanker first hit the motorcycle from behind while overtaking it, killing both the driver and pillion rider and then collided with a car that was coming from the opposite direction, killing three of the four people in it,” Senior Inspector N.S. Bhonsale-Patil of Nigdi police station said.

Out of the four people in the car, Vimal Kumar Jain, 62, the managing director of Kumar Builders, was killed on the spot along with his associate Sampat Ingle, 63, and driver Mahendra Gawli, 42.

“Another associate of Jain, Sriram Sapre is critically injured and undergoing treatment,” Bhonsale-Patil said.

Those riding the bike were identified as Lakshman Thakar, 51 and Hansabai Thakar, 45.

The driver of the tanker is absconding.
