Five injured in Dera-Sikh clash in Punjab

Barnala (Punjab), Aug 14 (IANS) At least five people were injured in a clash between members of the Sikh community and followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect in a village in this Punjab district Thursday. Both sides indulged in stone pelting at Diwana village in Barnala district, leading to injuries to at least five people.

The clash took place when Dera supporters gathered in the village for the memory service of the mother of a sect follower. When the sect followers started their prayers, some Sikh activists objected to it and a clash ensued.

Two vehicles belonging to the sect followers were set on fire by the Sikhs.

Police reinforcements were rushed to the village to control the situation even as tension prevailed there.
