New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) Police detained five men early Friday when they tried to barge into Anna Hazare’s fast venue through the VIP gate and one of them became violent, authorities said.
Around 10 drunk men allegedly attacked two policemen deployed at one of the Ramlila Maidan gates at around 3 a.m.
When the policemen stopped them, one man hit a policeman.
“As the group was in no mood to budge, we detained five of them. The rest fled,” an officer said.
Another Hazare supporter denied the arrested men had any links with the protest.
Team Anna member Kiran Bedi said that from Friday night volunteers will help Delhi Police to manage crowds and the traffic on roads around the spacious ground.
