September 13th, 2011 - 4:20 pm ICT by IANSPatna, Sep 13 (IANS) Five police officials have been suspended in Bihar’s Rohtas district for their alleged involvement in a custodial death, police Tuesday said.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj suspended the five police officials, including the Dehri police station house officer.
Maharaj took action against the police officials after an inquiry report by Assistant Superintendent of Police Kumar Amar Singh found them guilty of negligence on duty in the matter.
Ram Chandra Sharma, 35, who was arrested by the Dehri police with a bag of stolen copper wire was reportedly beaten up badly in lockup and died Sunday.
Maharaj also ordered departmental and legal proceedings against the officials and requested the district and sessions judge of Rohtas for a judicial inquiry into the custodial death.
