Fire in Kolkata medicine godown

Kolkata, June 3 (IANS) A fire broke out here Tuesday morning in a building where medicines and chemicals are stored in bulk. The incident took place at Mehta Building, a commercial complex, at Canning Street in central Kolkata.
“The godown caught fire around 11 a.m. The exact cause of fire is not yet unknown,” said a fire brigade official.
“We have been able to contain the fire in a portion of the godown. There were other godowns of chemicals, plastic and cosmetics in the same building,” he said.
According to an eyewitnesses, 15 fire engines reached the spot around 11.20 a.m.
The people trapped in the building that housed the godown have been rescued by the police.
