Fire in Delhi slum near Commonwealth Games village
January 9th, 2010 - 1:10 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 9 (IANS) A fire in a slum near the under-construction Commonwealth Games village in east Delhi gutted seven hutments early Saturday. There were no casualties, an official said.
“A fire broke out in a shanty in east Delhi at around 3 a.m. today (Saturday) and subsequently spread to six other adjoining hutments. Nine fire tenders had to be rushed to douse the flames,” a fire department official said.
“There were no casualties,” he added.
The incident took place near the Akshardham temple. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
