Fire in Chandigarh warehouse, no casualties
February 26th, 2010 - 8:33 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Feb 26 (IANS) A major fire broke out in a chemical warehouse here Friday resulting in goods worth lakhs being destroyed though there were no casualties.
It took 12 fire extinguishers over three hours to douse the blaze in a warehouse belonging Vardhman Chemicals, in industrial area phase I, officials said.
“It was a major fire incident and it took over three hours to control the fire. The exact reason behind this fire is still unknown,” P.K. Sharma, chief fire officer, Chandigarh, said.
“We reached the spot within five minutes after getting the information. The presence of combustible material like various chemicals made our task more difficult. But we still managed to prevent a major tragedy by stopping it from spreading to neighbouring factories.”
The owner said the losses would go into lakhs of rupees.
