Fire engulfs bank branch in Chhattisgarh district

Raipur, March 6 (IANS) A fire broke out inside the State Bank of India (SBI)’s main branch in Balod town of Chhattisgarh’s Durg district, destroying documents, furniture, and air conditioners worth Rs.1.5 million.
However, the cash kept at the branch was safe, bank officials said.

Police said the bank guard first noticed the fire that broke out due to a short-circuit and soon engulfed the bank. The local people doused the blaze even before a fire brigade team reached the scene.

Balod is located some 100 km from state capital Raipur.
