FIR against three former officials in graft case

Ranchi, July 25 (IANS) A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against three ex chairmen of the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) for accepting bribes to award a rural electrification contract to a Lucknow based company.
The FIR was lodged by JSEB Secretary S.K. Sinha Saturday against V.N. Pandey, S.M. Verma and H.B. Lal who were chairmen of the JSEB during the Madhu Koda and Shibu Soren regime.

The three allegedly sublet the rural electrification work of the state to Lucknow based IVRCL company at a higher rate of Rs.445 crore and accepted kickbacks in lieu of the contract.

According to government sources, the FIR was lodged on the basis of an Income Tax report. Some of the IVRCL officials during IT interrogation admitted paying kickbacks of more than Rs.90 crore to JSEB ex chairmen, Koda and others. The name of a Koda associate - Vinod Sinha also figured in the revelation.

The FIR was lodged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
