Filmmaker Tapan Sinha hospitalised
December 6th, 2008 - 9:26 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Dec 6 (IANS) Filmmaker Tapan Sinha, who has won 19 National Film Awards in various categories, was admitted to a city hospital Saturday afternoon with acute breathing problems, a hospital spokesperson said.Sinha was admitted to the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit at Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) in south Kolkata.
“He (Sinha) was unconscious for sometime,” a hospital spokesperson told reporters in the evening.
“A team of doctors have conducted a series of medical tests on him. At present he is under medication. We are constantly monitoring his conditions. As for his health condition, nothing can be said before another 24 hours,” he added.
The 84-year-old veteran filmmaker has won 19 National Film Awards in various categories apart from winning laurels in international film festivals like those in Berlin, Venice, London, Moscow, San Francisco and Locarno.
He was also conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award by the central government.
His films include “Ankush”, “Uphaar”, “Ek Doctor Ki Maut”, “Safed Haathi”, “Kabuliwala” and “Sagina Mahato”.
