‘Fewer Pakistani, Bangladeshi infiltrators held in 2008′

New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS) Fewer infiltrators from Pakistan and Bangladesh were apprehended in 2008 in comparison to the previous two years, parliament was informed Wednesday.A total of 123 people were caught at the India-Pakistan border in the 11 months to November against 128 in 2007, Minister of State for Home Radhika V. Selvi said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Border Security Force (BSF) had apprehended 2,559 infiltrators at the India-Bangladesh border this year against 4,206 last year, Selvi added.

In 2006, a total of 5,130 foreign infiltrators were captured at the India-Bangladesh border.

“The apprehension of infiltrators indicates reduction in cross border infiltration on the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders,” Selvi said.
