London, Sep 15 (IANS) Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson hailed his veteran striker Ryan Giggs who scored a superb left-foot strike against Benfica in Champions League Wednesday - 17 years after his first Champions League goal.
Giggs netted twice in United’s 4-2 win over IFK Gothenburg at Old Trafford in 1994 and Ferguson paid tribute to the 37-year-old’s latest strike against the Portuguese club.
“It was a great goal from Ryan, very good. I felt in the early part of the match he perhaps sat too deep in midfield. But when he got in behind them, in their central midfield area, he was a real threat to them,” Ferguson was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
“His goal came from exactly that. He got it by getting in behind their midfield. It was terrific quality,” he said.
