Feb 4 Uttar Pradesh poll to be rescheduled
January 9th, 2012 - 12:25 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 8 (IANS) Uncertainty over whether ‘Barawafat’ will fall on Feb 4, the Election Commission Sunday decided that the notification for polling in 60 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh to be held on that day will not be issued on Jan 10 as scheduled.Accordingly, the commission has requested Governor B.L. Joshi not to issue the notification Jan 10 for phase one of the seven-phased polls in the state.
Election Commission sources said the law and order agencies and district electoral officers of Uttar Pradesh had also raised the issue at review meeting at Lucknow Friday-Saturday.
The revised schedule for phase one of the poll will be announced by the commission separately, they said.
Barawafat, or Id-Milad-un Nabi, is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad.
