Mumbai, March 19 (IANS) A 49-year-old businessman has been charged with raping his daughter for over nine years to get ‘rich quickly’ on the advice of a black magic practitioner. The father, the tantrik and the girl’s mother were sent to two days’ police custody Thursday, officials said here.
The police said Thane-based Kishore Bachhubhai Chavan raped his 20-year-old daughter on the advice of tantrik Hasmukh Rathod, 55, in order to acquire huge wealth. The crimes were committed in connivance with his wife Anjana. The tantrik also allegedly raped the man’s daughters. The three were arrested from their Mira Road house Wednesday night.

While Chavan has been charged with raping his eldest daughter, the tantrik has been accused of raping both the daughters and having illicit relations with Anjana. The wife has been held for abetting the crime, said Senior Police Inspector Mukund Mahajan of Mira Road Police Station.

The three were remanded to police custody by a district magistrate.

“Our preliminary investigations revealed that the Chavan family was advised by the tantrik that if they acted on his advice (of raping the daughters), they would get rich quickly,” Mahajan told IANS this evening.

Anjana aided and abetted the crime by having physical relations with the tantrik while her husband raped their daughters, the official said.

The 20-year-old girl’s ordeal began nine years ago when she was barely 11 years old - the time her father started raping her with active help from her mother Anjana (46).

The matter came to light when Rathod allegedly started raping the 15-year-old younger daughter under the pretext of making the family get rich quickly, Mahajan said.

The traumatised girls then took courage and narrated the entire matter to their grandmother and their maternal uncle who finally took them to the police and registered a complaint, the official said.
