Father of boxing champs Klitschkos dies
July 14th, 2011 - 9:20 pm ICT by IANSLondon, July 14 (IANS) The father of heavyweight boxing champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko has died at the age of 64 after a long battle with illness, media reports said Thursday.
Wladimir Klitschko Rodionovic, who was instrumental in the clean-up in the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster while serving as a colonel in the Soviet Air Force in his native Ukraine in 1986, had been suffering from cancer.
It has been reported that he watched his son Wladimir beat David Haye from a hospital bed in Hamburg, July 2, before being moved to Kiev where he spent the final days of his life.
