Farooq Abdullah elected to Rajya Sabha
February 13th, 2009 - 8:52 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Feb 13 (IANS) National Conference president and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah and his party colleague Mohammad Shafi Uri were Friday elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Abdullah polled 27 votes while Uri got 25. Abdullah is also a member of the state legislative assembly.
On Feb 6, union Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-Din Soz and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad (both of Congress) were declared elected unopposed.
All the four seats had fallen vacant in November last year. The elections could not be held then because polling was underway in the state to elect a new assembly. The assembly polls were completed Dec 24 and the results were declared Dec 28.
