Families appeal to Maoists to release labourers
December 11th, 2011 - 1:18 pm ICT by IANSPatna, Dec 11 (IANS) The distraught family members of seven labourers, who were abducted by Maoists in Bihar’s Jamui district two days ago while constructing a bridge, Sunday appealed to the rebels release them.
On Dec 9, over two dozen Maoists abducted the labourers near Khaira, about 200 km from here.
“I request the Maoists to release my son who is the lone bread earner for us,” said Premila Devi, mother of Anil Singh, one of the seven abducted workers.
Virendra Yadav, father of Phultush Yadav, another labourer, said: “I simply appeal to the Maoists with folded hands to free my son who is innocent.”
Superintendent of Police Pushkar Anand said search operations have been launched in Jamui, considered a rebel stronghold, and neighbouring districts to rescue the abducted labourers.
“Local police along with central paramilitary force have launched a search to rescue abducted labourers,” Anand said.
Police suspect the Maoists chose to abduct the workers after the company constructing the bridge refused to pay ‘protection money’. Last month, the rebels had abducted 15 people, including 12 labourers, in Jamui but later released them.
