Fake currency gang busted, three arrested
March 7th, 2011 - 9:09 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 7 (IANS) Three men engaged in making and circulating fake Indian currency have been arrested, police said Monday.
“The three have been identified as Sirajuddin, 26, Mohammad Yunus, 32, and Mohammad Ashif, 26,” said a senior police officer.
Sirajuddin and Mohammad Yunus were arrested from Khan Market in central Delhi Sunday following a tip-off. “We recovered fakes notes in the denominations of Rs.100 and Rs.500 from them,” said the officer.
During interrogation, the two told police that they made the fake currency at a rented room in Darya Ganj area in central Delhi.
“The room was raided and fake Indian currency with face value of Rs.8 lakh, a computer, printer, scanner, leaf machine, cutter, cartridges, papers and some other raw materials were seized and Ashif arrested,” said the officer.
Sirajuddin, the kingpin, is a school dropout and was arrested in 2005 for selling pirated CDs.
Yunus, a son of a forest guard in Jammu, had come in contact with Hizbul Mujahideen and was arrested in September 2003 after a hand grenade and pistol were found with him. He was released from jail on bail in December 2005 but skipped bail in 2008, came to Delhi and joined Sirajuddin.
Ashif had joined the gang after doing a course in graphic designing.
