Fake banker held in capital
January 7th, 2011 - 10:06 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) A man was arrested here for duping 53 people of Rs.9 lakh on the pretext of providing interest-free bank loans, police said Friday. According to the police, the accused, Raj Kumar, used to advertise in newspapers about giving zero interest loans.
“Once the loan seekers called him, he would speak in different voices under fake names posing as an advocate or a bank employee or a bank verification manager. The victim would then be instructed to deposit a certain amount in a bank account as processing charges,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said.
“Once the amount was deposited in the given account, Raj Kumar would withdraw the cash and snap further communication,” he added.
According to the police, Raj kumar had cheated 53 people from across the country within a span of three months.
“Since the amount was generally small, the victims didn’t file complaints,” Dhaliwal said.
The accused was finally nabbed Thursday from south Delhi on a complaint filed by Kamlesh, an employee of Delhi Jal Board. He was cheated of Rs.60,000.
