Fair dedicated to women in Madhya Pradesh
March 9th, 2011 - 12:17 am ICT by IANSBhopal March 8 (IANS) A five-day fair featuring works of rural women will begin here Wednesday, officials said Tuesday.
The Mamatva Mela, which is being held since 1990 by women self-help groups under the Tejiswini rural women empowerment programme, will see them showcasing their products like cotton and silk fabrics and cloth, kosa, Chanderi saris, Bagh printed sheets and dress material, boss art, furniture, marble sculptures, pickles, honey, spices and other items. These items can also be bought from the venue.
A training and cultural programme will also organised, as well as cultural programmes including folk dances, light music, dance drama and bhajan recitals.
The woman artisans will also be imparted training in livelihood enhancement, marketing skills, women’s healthcare, nutrition and gender sensitisation.
