F1 caricature book released
October 21st, 2011 - 6:36 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Oct 21 (IANS) Indian driver Karun Chandhok Friday launched VROOOM, the first ever Formula One (F1) caricature book which will be shared with F1 drivers at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix next weekend.
VROOOM, launched in association with Adrenna, is the brainchild of artist Shijo Varghese and is the only caricature book which includes the drivers of the 2011 season.
VROOOM includes caricatures of F1 champions Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and local favourites Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan.
The book includes a foreword from FMSCI president Vicky Chandhok and a tribute to the world’s leading motorsport cartoonist, Jim Bamber.
The book is being launched exclusively to be presented to the drivers and team principals of the 2011 F1 World Championship as a sneak preview to the official public release, set to coincide with the start of the 2012 season.
Karun received the first copy from Varghese and was thrilled with what he saw.
He commented: “The moment I saw these caricatures I was very impressed and knew that it was a must have for all F1 fans.
“Shijo has done a brilliant job and I had a good laugh when I saw my caricature. With the inaugural Indian GP around the corner, there is an additional element of excitement to this festive season, and this book brings another element of charm.”
Varghese said: “I would like to thank Karun Chandhok for being here and accepting the first copy of this book. Making caricatures is what I have always loved.
“This is a not-for-profit book so I would sincerely like to thank our partners, NPT Offset and Adrenna. I have always tried to show that there is a lighter side to all things in life, and especially sport where competition is often so fierce.”
Varghese had previously authored two books of caricatures, the first book a tribute to the Indian cricket team and a collection of caricatures of the Chennai Super Kings for IPL 4.
