Explain differences between ministers on 2G, BJP demands

New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday reiterated its demand to sack union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum scam, and sought to know the “points of differences” between him and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
“The government has agreed there are some differences between the finance minister and the home minister. The government should come out with the points of differences,” senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi told reporters.
“There is a clear case for dismissal of Chidambaram from the cabinet.”
He criticised Law Minister Salman Khurshid for defending Chidambaram on the issue.
“Khurshid is a good lawyer but he can’t defend an indefensible case,” said Joshi.
Referring to the recent note from the finance ministry which suggested Chidambaram could have stopped the loss to government in the 2G allocation when he was the finance minister, Joshi said Pranab Mukherjee has wrongly downplayed the importance of the note, terming it as a routine dossier.
“The note is a secret document and is signed by deputy director level officer in the department of economic affairs under the finance ministry. It details the 2G allocation process,” said Joshi.
Joshi said the Justice Shivraj Patil panel appointed to look into 2G allocation had noted “there were inconsistencies in the process”.
He charged the government of trying to mislead parliament and the Supreme Court over the issue.
