New Delhi, April 24 (IANS) The union home ministry Thursday denied permission to former servicemen to hold a demonstration at India Gate here against the sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations. “The ministry has denied the permission, saying that section 144 of the CrPC (prohibiting unlawful assembly of people) has been in place around the area,” senior vice-president of Ex-Servicemen Organisation (ESMO) Maj. Gen. (retd) Satbir Singh said.

“We had send an application on April 4 seeking permission for holding the demonstration Sunday (April 27), but the ministry was dilly-dallying about the permission,” Singh added.

The organisation will decide on an alternative venue Friday. The demonstrations are planned in 60 cities across the country.
