Ex-Egyptian bank chief pleads guilty of sex abuse

New York, June 25 (IANS) Former chairman of Egypt’s Bank of Alexandria here Friday pleaded guilty of sexually abusing a maid, Xinhua reported.

Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, 74, was charged with sexually assaulting the employee of Manhattan’s Pierre Hotel.

Omar was arrested in late May on criminal charges of assaulting the maid when she delivered tissues to his room at the Pierre Hotel. Meanwhile, the maid in the case has filed a civil suit seeking $ 5 million in damages.

“The defendant’s conduct was outrageous,” the lawsuit said.

Omar’s arrest came on the heels of a similar alleged sexual assault by former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn at the luxury Sofitel hotel in Midtown, New York.
