Ex-cop jailed after shooting wife, daughter

Lucknow, June 20 (IANS) A policeman sacked 23 years ago in Uttar Pradesh has been jailed after getting drunk and firing at his wife and daughter from his licensed gun in Gonda district. The injured women were hospitalised and out of danger following the Friday incident, according to doctors.

The accused, V.K. Shukla, was a sub-inspector in the Uttar Pradesh Police. His services were terminated in 1985 for negligence of duty when he was posted in Gorakhpur.

Police officer S.D. Singh described Shukla as a drug addict. He fired at his wife Geeta, 45, and daughter Rashmi, 16. While Geeta was shot in the thigh, Rashmi was hit at her back.

“Both are out of danger. Shukla has been sent to jail,” Singh said.
