Bharatiya Janata PartyGorakhpur, Jan 29 (IANS) Defending the Samajwadi Party’s new ties with Kalyan Singh, its general secretary Amar Singh Thursday said even senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani is welcome in the party provided he apologised for the destruction of the Babri Masjid.”We would welcome even Lal Krishna Advani if he were to express regret over the demolition of the Babri Mosque,” Amar Singh told a public rally here to kickstart the poll campaign of local party nominee Manoj Tiwari, a popular Bhojpuri singer.

Kalyan Singh, who quit the BJP this month, was Uttar Pradesh chief minister at the time of the mosque destruction in 1992.

Defending the party’s recent truck with Kalyan Singh whose son Rajvir Singh was inducted in the party and named national general secretary, Amar Singh said: “The move will not only strengthen our party, but also decimate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh.”

He also hailed Kalyan Singh as a force to reckon with.

Training his guns at his party’s Muslim MPs, Saleem Sherwani and Shafiqur Rehman Burke, who were critical of the deal with Kalyan Singh, Amar Singh asked: “Where were these people when Kalyan Singh’s son was holding a cabinet minister’s chair in the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in 2005?

“And let me make it clear that Kalyan Singh is not going to offer apologies to anyone,” he added though without context.

At this point, the dais suddenly caved in, though no one was hurt.
