New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) With help pouring from across the world for 2.8 million people affected by Bihar floods, a group of eunuchs in the capital have donated Rs 31,000 for carrying out relief work in marooned districts. The eunuchs from Laximi Nagar in east Delhi gave the amount as a donation to the traders’ organisation in the area for helping the flood-ravaged people in various districts of Bihar.

The organisation has sent five trucks carrying rice, dal, clothes and blankets to Bihar last week.

“We have appealed to people in Laxmi Nagar to donate whole-heartedly for flood victims. A group of eunuchs approached us with Rs 31,000 cash saying they want to donate it for flood relief work,” Mohammed Javed, a member of the traders’ association, told IANS.

The association had requested the eunuchs to flag off the relief material to Bihar, which they turned down, saying ‘it is a secret donation and we don’t want any publicity for this’, Javed said.

“We bought rice and dal from the money and had sent relief material last week,” Javed added.

The organisation has also put up posters at various places requesting the people to come forward to help those affected by the floods.

“It all started as a small initiative and we had thought of donating the relief material to some NGO. However, when we received a huge response from the people we decided to transport it ourselves and hand it over to the state government in Patna,” Javed said.

At least 50 people have died, while over 2.8 million people and nearly one million cattle have been affected by the floods caused by a change in the course of the Kosi river following a breach in an embankment upstream in Nepal. About 100,000 hectares of farmland have been submerged and nearly 300,000 houses damaged.
