Bhopal, May 27 (IANS) An engineer, suspended by Madhya Pradesh’s Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Gaurishankar Bisen for committing irregularities, has been arrested after he tried to bribe the minister to revoke his suspension, police said Wednesday.
Executive engineer R.N. Karaiya, posted in Bhind district, was suspended last week by the minister on the charge of committing several irregularities and a departmental probe was ordered against him.

However, Karaiya, along with one of his associates, reached the minister’s residence late Tuesday and offered him Rs.500,000 for revoking his suspension.

The minister asked the two to leave his house at once. He later informed the police which registered a case against the duo under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

“While Karaiya has been arrested, we are looking for his associate,” T.T. Nagar police station house officer Umesh Tiwari told IANS.

The minister confirmed that the engineer, who was suspended by him last week, made an attempt to offer a bribe for the cancellation of his suspension orders.

“The engineer was suspended by me during my Bhind tour last week following several complaints of irregularities against him and a departmental inquiry was also ordered against him. He, however, came to my house yesterday and offered me a bribe of Rs.five lakh (Rs.500,000). I reported the matter to the police,” Bisen told IANS.
