Elinor Ostrom Wins Nobel Prize For Economics

Oct. 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Elinor Ostrom made history this week when she claimed the coveted honor of the Nobel Prize in the field of economics. Her win has put her in the league of the best in her respective field in the world. Also, the American Ostrom achieved another commendable feat along the process. She became the first woman to have clinched the honor ever since it came to be included in the Nobel category almost 40 years ago.
The announcement about the win was made on Monday. Elinor Ostrom shares the top spot as well as the accompanying cash award of nearly $1.4 million along with fellow American, Oliver E. Williamson. The two have won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for the dedication and effort that they have put in for their research on finding out about the decision making skills of people and organizations as well as cooperate beyond the periphery of the “traditional markets”. This field of economics is no doubt emerging to be one of the leading branches for research work, as it binges on the borderline of quite a few important factors such as climate changes and financial institutions.
Elinor Ostrom is a Los Angeles based professor, who is known to teach at the Indiana University that is located in Bloomington, Ind.. She had achieved her doctorate in political science, graduating from the U.C.L.A. in the year 1965. While speaking to the media in a telephonic interview post the announcement made by the Nobel committee on her win, she has reportedly stated that she considers herself to be a “political economist”.
