New Delhi, May 28 (IANS) An elderly couple was found dead in their flat in the national capital, police said Saturday adding that the cause of the death has not been ascertained yet.

The bodies of Ramesh Kapoor, 70, and his wife V Ramna, 68, were found in their first floor flat in Madhu Vihar area of east Delhi Saturday morning, according to a senior police official.

“A neighbour, Anil, informed the police after he saw the flat closed for the last three days and foul smell coming out of it,” said another neighbour Davendra Kumar Sharma.

Police broke open the door and found the slightly decomposed body of the couple.

“The body of Kapoor was lying on the bed and that of his wife in the bathroom,” said the officer.

The bodies were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for autopsy.

“They might have been killed or died three to four days ago. Robbery is ruled out as things were in place. Nothing was ransacked. The cabinets and the almirahs were locked,” said the officer.

Sharma, the neighbour, said: “Kapoor had an accident a few months ago and steel plate was inserted in one of his legs. He used a walking stick. Kapoor’s wife was suffering from paralysis and was bed-ridden.”

Kapoor hailed from Punjab and the couple had no children.
