Eight students, teacher die in Madhya Pradesh accident
November 9th, 2009 - 3:13 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, Nov 9 (IANS) Eight school children and a teacher were killed and 32 others injured when a bus in which they were travelling fell in the Kshipra river in Mahidpur, 250 km from this Madhya Pradesh capital, officials said Monday.
“The children were primary level students of Saraswati School of Ratlam district and were returning after a daylong trip to Ujjain. The injured have been admitted to a government hospital in Mahidpur,” Ujjain Collector Ajatshatru said.
The bus that belonged to the school used an abandoned bridge instead of the newly constructed one to cross the river, police said. “All the passengers have been taken out. In total, 34 children, four female and a male teacher, the driver and the cleaner were in the bus,” said Ajatshatru.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced Rs.50,000 as compensation to the families of the victims.
